How a 27-Year-Old Man Pretended to Be DSP, Deceived People for Police Recruitment Fees

The Sokoto State Police Command has detained Abdulnasir Bello, a 27-year-old man, for impersonating a Deputy Superintendent of Police to deceive and defraud individuals. During a press briefing at the command headquarters in Sokoto on Thursday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Kaigama, announced Bello's arrest following multiple complaints from his victims.

Kaigama explained that Bello tricked his victims by promising to help them get recruited into the Nigeria Police Force. He stated, "In 2018, Danjuma Garba from Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, along with three others, reported to the state CID Sokoto that a police officer named Abdulnasir Bello had approached them and collected N420,000, claiming he could secure their entry into the Nigerian Police Force.

"Based on a tip-off, on 21/05/2024, at around 2:00 PM, an operative from the Sokoto State Police Headquarters confronted Abdulnasir Bello at the Police Headquarters premises. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to impersonating a police officer since 2016, posing as a DSP, and performing illegal activities. He admitted to collecting money from parents under the pretense of recruiting their children into the Police Force."

CP Kaigama further revealed, "During a search of Bello's residence, we recovered several exhibits, including a police training manual, NPF guarantor formsNPF guarantor forms, letters of introduction, provisional offer letters for constable positions, and passport photographs of 27 applicants. Additionally, we found a police face cap and camouflage cap, as well as a forged police identity card and other documents created and printed by Abdulaziz Shuaib, a 29-year-old resident of Bado Area." The suspect is expected to be charged in court soon.
